Halloween 1-5 UHD Collection Coming from Via Vision

Some exciting news for those of us with money to spare and a desire to own some collectible memorabilia! Australian distributor Via Vision has announced a new 4K UHD collection via their Imprint line. The limited edition release, housed inside a battery-powered light-up pumpkin, collects the first five films, alongside existing bonus features and new booklets for each film!

There are few horror franchises as ubiquitous as Halloween. Masked killer Michael Myers first made waves in 1978, slashing his way across cinema screens worldwide and into the hearts of horror aficionados forever.

We are thrilled to be bringing the first five films in the long-running franchise to the Imprint Collection on 4K UHD & Blu-ray, loaded with special features and multiple cuts across a horrifying thirteen discs, with authoring and encoding from Fidelity In Motion.

This strictly limited edition jack o’lantern pumpkin packaging is a must-have mantelpiece set, hand-painted and sitting on a custom-moulded base measuring 29 x 27 x 25cm. Also featuring an integrated flickering LED light so you can have a burning jack o’lantern on your shelves all year round!

The five films are each housed in their own steelbook, sitting in custom-made foam inserts securely recessed at the rear of the pumpkin. An insert booklet sits inside each steelbook, featuring brand new essays from author Andrew Grevas.

Imprint Collection #475 – Michael Myers escapes from the Illinois State Mental Hospital after 15 years treatment for the brutal murder of his sister and is returning to Haddonfield to relive his crime. Australian label Via Vision Entertainment has announced that they’ll be releasing the two Rob Zombie films, packaged together in an Ultimate Edition! The four-disc set will contain both the theatrical and director’s cuts of the two films, as well as a slew of to-be-announced special features.

High Def Digest Reviews Scream Factory’s ‘The Halloween 4K Collection (1995-2002)’

Ahead of its release later this week, High Def Digest has published their in-depth review for Scream Factory’s The Halloween 4K Collection (1995-2002) set, featuring comparison images between various releases and an overview of the set’s contents.

I’ve included some highlights below, but please make sure to read the entire review for any questions you may have!

As one of the longest-running horror franchises in cinema history, the Halloween films have run the map of sequels, remakes, and reboots. Scream Factory brings together The Halloween 4K Collection – 1995-2002, combining Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, the relaunch Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later and its follow-up Halloween: Resurrection. Now in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, each of the films have been given new 4K scans from the original camera negatives and Dolby Vision HDR (with varying results), the same solid audio tracks, and plenty of new and archival bonus features to slice through. Die Hard Myers fans will want to pick this set up, but for the casual franchise fan it may be a tough sell.
Scream Factory continues their work started a year ago with The Halloween Collection (1995-2002). This is an eight-disc set, with two 4K discs and two Blu-ray discs covering both cuts of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. All of the individual slipcases are held together with a thin paper-stock box.
As we approach yet another entry in the long-running franchise with Halloween Ends on October 15th, Scream Factory gives the sixth, seventh, and eighth films another run. This set is a bit of a mishmash of films, each with its stalwart fans and detractors. And unlike Scream Factory’s last run of franchise releases, the only way you can get these three films on 4K is in this set, and that may well be a sticking point come purchase time for many out there.
Each film in the set was given new 4K scans with Dolby Vision HDR for the 4K discs. Generally, the improvements are appreciable but the color timing changes for The Curse of Michael Myers will no doubt be a conversation piece within the fan and collector communities. I personally don’t mind it, but it takes a little getting used to. As for H20 and Resurrection, the color changes are far less dramatic working better to accent the films visuals. And since those films had such shoddy releases previously, it’s easier to see and appreciate the numerous improvements.
Bonus features junkies also pick up an excellent new audio commentary for the theatrical cut of The Curse of Michael Myers with Resurrection scoring several new very good and informative cast and crew interviews. Even with the improvements mentioned, this set isn’t really for the casual Halloween fans but instead for the die-hard junkies like myself. Ultimately this one is Recommended… at least until the next set for Rob Zombie’s remakes and/or a massive mega franchise set with all of the films together – even if that seems unlikely.

‘The Halloween 4K Collection’ Coming from Scream Factory

After their success with the 4K editions of the first five films last October, Scream Factory is set to excite Halloween fans once again this fall! The Halloween 4K Collection (1995-2002) is set to be released on October 4, 2022, and features all new 4K editions of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later and Halloween Resurrection! Additionally, The Curse of Michael Myers will also feature the film’s producer’s cut in 4K!

Unlike last year’s roll-out, which featured the films being released individually, this year’s line-up seems to be only be available as part of the box set. My personal hunch is this could be a contractual obligation with Miramax or Paramount, but Scream has at least provided matching slipcases inside the box for the three films.

The reality programmers at DangerTainment have selected Rudy (Sean Patrick Thomas, Dracula 2000), Bill (Thomas Ian Nicholas, American Pie), and a group of thrill-seeking teenagers to spend one fun-filled night in the childhood home of serial killer Michael Myers. But the planned live broadcast turns deadly when their evening of excitement becomes a night of horror as Michael himself decides to crash the party. Halloween: Resurrection also stars Bianca Kajlich (Bring It On), Katee Sackhoff (Riddick, Battlestar Galactica), Busta Rhymes (Narc), and Tyra Banks, along with a special appearance by Jamie Lee Curtis.

Blast From the Past: The ‘Halloween: Resurrection’ Bootleg DVD

For today’s treat, here is something deep from the archives that I’ve been meaning to post! Despite its reception upon release, Halloween Resurrection at one point had a ton of hype for its release as everyone was curious to see how exactly Moustapha Akkad and Dimension Films was going to follow up Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later.

The home video market in 2002 was also drastically different than it is currently, and this bootleg DVD found itself circulating in fan circles while the film was still in theatres. My favourite aspect of it? The “review” at the top on the rear cover.

First Reviews for Scream Factory’s ‘Halloween’ UHD Release Are In!

With their October 5 release date approaching, the first set of reviews for Scream Factory’s upcoming 4K UHD release of John Carpenter’s Halloween are in! The first review comes courtesy of Hi-Def Digest, while the second comes courtesy of Robert Harris at Home Theater Forum. Both men give the release their recommendation, and praise is lauded on the film’s video transfer.

Studio Canal Releasing 4K Collector’s Editions of 5 John Carpenter Films

As fans gear up for the new 4K Collector’s Editions of the first five Halloween films coming courtesy of Shout Factory imprint Scream Factory, UK label Studio Canal is appealing to fans of John Carpenter! The label will release new 4K limited collector’s editions of five John Carpenter films – 1980’s The Fog (featuring Nancy Loomis, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, Tom Atkins and Charles Cypher); 1981’s Escape From New York (featuring Donald Pleasence, Charles Cyphers and Tom Atkins); 1982’s The Thing; 1987’s Prince of Darkness (featuring Donald Pleasence); and 1988’s They Live!

The releases will all come in a rigid slipbox featuring a retro-styled poster utilizing the new commissioned artwork, a booklet, art cards, the film on both 4K UHD and Blu-Ray discs, an additional Blu-Ray of special features were applicable, and the film’s soundtrack on CD! The films can currently be ordered at Amazon UK (worldwide), as well as HMV (for UK residents only). The Thing appears to be close to selling out, as retailer Zavvi has already depleted its stock as well as HMV.

Scream Factory to Do 4K Releases of Halloween Sequels?

Fresh off the speculation of a 4K Collector’s Edition of the original Halloween coming courtesy of Scream Factory, additional leaked listings (courtesy of the Blu-Ray.com forums) have shown that 4K releases could be possible for Halloween II, Halloween III: Season of the Witch and Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers!
