Jamie Lee Curtis was born on November 22, 1958 in Santa Monica, California to her parents Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis. She has an older sister, Kelly, and several half-siblings: Alexandra, Allegra, Benjamin, and Nicholas.

After making her acting debut in an episode of Quincy M.E. in 1977, she began her first recurring role as Lt. Barbara Duran on Operation Petticoat. In 1978, she made her feature film debut as Laurie Strode in the horror film Halloween, which also became her breakout role.

In the 45+ years since her feature film debut, Jamie Lee Curtis has established herself on screen as a scream queen, a comedic icon, a sex symbol and an action star. In 2018, her anticipated return to the Halloween franchise set box–office records that have yet to be beat. Off screen, her dedication to children’s health and LGBT rights worldwide have made her one of the most philanthropic celebrities of our time.

• In 1990, Jamie Lee Curtis and her father Tony helped finance the rebuilding of the Great Synagogue in Budapest, Hungary, which had suffered damage during World War II. It’s the largest synagogue in Europe, and was originally built in 1859.
• In 2003, She was the guest of honour at the 11th annual gala and fundraiser for Women in Recovery. Based in Venice, California, it’s a non-profit organization that offers a live-in, twelve-step program of rehabilitation for women in need.
• Jamie Lee Curtis is also involved in the work of the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation, serving as the annual host for the organization’s “Dream Halloween” event in Los Angeles that takes place every October. She has a leadership role for the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and frequently partakes in charity fundraisers for the hospital. Her first and only horror movie convention appearance in 2012 took place solely to raise money for the hospital to build a new wing.
• During California’s 2008 general election, Curtis appeared in the “Yes on Prop 3” television advertisements, and advocated against Proposition 8, which would ban same-sex marriage in the state.
• In March 2012, she was featured with Martin Sheen and Brad Pitt in a performance of Dustin Lance Black’s play 8, which was a staged reenactment of the federal trial that overturned California’s Prop 8 ban on same-sex marriage. She portrayed Sandy Stier. The production was held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre and broadcast on YouTube to raise money for the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
• In June 2016, the Human Rights Campaign released a video in tribute to the victims of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando; in the video, Curtis and others told the stories of the people killed there.

• Jamie Lee Curtis is the only daughter of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, both of whom were actors.
• The late Carrie Fisher once said that, with her upbringing of two well-known actors, the only other person she could relate to was Jamie Lee Curtis; Jamie Lee would later star alongside Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd in Scream Queens.
• Jamie Lee Curtis, producer John Carpenter, and writer/director Tony Lee Wallace have all said that, contrary to popular belief, she did not have an uncredited cameo as the Santa Mira announcer in Halloween III: Season of the Witch.
• She has referenced the experience of working with her mother on Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later, which would ultimately be Janet Leigh’s final acting role, as one of her best memories.
• To date, she has the most Halloween film appearances, with 7. Donald Pleasance and Danielle Harris are her successors, with 5 and 4 appearances, respectively.
