Bare Magazine spoke with Halloween‘s Andi Matichak recently. Check out the article and photoshoot below.

The stunning and talented Andi Matichak stars alongside Emile Hirsch in Ivan Kavanagh’s supernatural horror film, “Son,” premiering in theaters and on-demand March 5th. In the film, she plays a mother trying to protect her son from the demonic cult that raised her — and her performance is truly compelling. Of course we’d expect nothing less from an actor who played Jamie Lee Curtis’ granddaughter in the 2018 reboot of the classic horror film “Halloween.” (She will also be starring in its next scary sequel “Halloween Kills” in October.) Recently, we got Andi to step away from the spooky film set and in front of our lens. Take a peek at the dreamy images of her, below, as well as some of her tips, product essentials and passions.

The Bare Magazine: Did you make any new skincare/self-care discoveries during quarantine that you found to be particularly comforting and effective?
Andi Matichak: For me, self care has never felt as necessary as it did this past year. Baths and at-home facials were my way to relax and feel good. My favorite bath products at the moment are Mary’s Nutritional Hemp Calm Bomb and Osea’s Gigartina Therapy Bath (Salt). My favorite at-home masks are the Environ’s Tri Biobotanical Revival Peeling Masque, Tata Harper’s Clarifying AHA + BHA Mask and The Ordinary’s Salicylic Acid 2% Charcoal Masque.

Bare: Did your beauty and skincare routines change while you were filming “Son”?
AM: SON was not only an intense movie to shoot, but the material was also quite dark and stressful. For me, stress equates to breakouts. My personal beauty routine stayed the same, but luckily I had a makeup artist, Leslie Dale Humphrey, who was basically a magician! She spoiled my skin and took such good care of me. Every time we wrapped for the day, she removed the day’s work with Koh Gen Do’s Cleansing Spa Water, which is filled with natural herbal essences and is only mildly acidic on the skin. Then we followed with a hot towel and a yummy application (and decadent deep facial massage) of Drunk Elephant’s Virgin Marula Oil. Then we ended with the Dermalogica Active Moist Moisturizer. When I got home and finished preparing for the next day, I would do my normal routine: Elta MD Foaming Facial Cleanser followed by Paula’s Choice Daily Pore-Refining Treatment with 2% BHA, which is a gentle exfoliating toner, and a generous application of my Environ Vit-Peptide C-Quence Serum 4+.

Bare: Have you become a pro at doing your own hair and makeup for zoom calls and remote press? What are some of your go-to products?
AM: I would consider myself a true minimalist when it comes to doing my own glam. Partly because I love the natural look, and partly because I’m definitely not a pro! I’ve found the most success with using products that are pliable and that I can apply with my hands. My skin tone always favors a warmer palette; so the colors in my makeup bag range from neutral to pink to deep rose. I have a good grasp on doing my hair but the products are key. Personally, I love Ouai and Oribe!

Bare: Stepping back to your younger years, were there any beauty tips/philosophies your mom or a close friend shared with you that still ring true?
AM: My mom always instilled that less is more and to stick with what works! Also, my ride or die in high school was my drugstore-bought clear mascara … We’re still good friends.

Bare: Who are some women you’ve worked with that have inspired and empowered you?
AM: Jamie Lee Curtis and Judy Greer are two women who I have been so fortunate to work with that have inspired and empowered me. They are both wildly authentic and unapologetically confident. Jamie Lee leads by example and commands a room with grace and generosity. And anyone that spends time around Judy Greer is better for it. She will challenge you to be better while making you die laughing in the process.

Bare: Are there any iconic beauties that stand out to you for reasons beyond their looks, and why?
AM: Hedy Lamarr!! She was so iconic and absolutely brilliant. At the height of her film career, and in the midst of WWII, she learned that radio-controlled torpedoes could easily be jammed and set off-course, so she co-invented a communications system that used randomly varying radio frequencies to prevent interceptions by the enemies. She received very little recognition at the time but is now credited for being a pioneer in the technology that makes cellphones, faxes, and all of today’s wireless communication systems possible. That’s just one of the many cool Hedy Lamarr facts!

Bare: Do you feel the aging process for female actors is becoming more accepted and embraced?
AM: I see the entertainment industry embracing more stories told by older women but there is still a very long way to go, especially destigmatizing the aging process. The entertainment, media and beauty industries all play a role in perpetuating the stigma around aging. These industries claim to support women aging naturally but really are just emphasizing “looking good for your age” and marketing products that claim to “fight aging,” which to me feels hypocritical. To quote what a woman I have always idolized, Julianne Moore, said ”I think it’s really important to be where you are,” when talking about accepting and celebrating your age.

Bare: What are your top 5 Bare essentials…they can be anything.
AM:
