David Gordon Green is Still Playing With ‘Halloween Ends’ Ending: “It Changes Every Day”

David Gordon Green is Still Playing With ‘Halloween Ends’ Ending: “It Changes Every Day”

Empire Magazine has an exclusive first look at the upcoming Halloween Ends, sharing the photo of an attack alongside a short article about the film.

For years now, we’ve known that David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy would close with an entry titled, appropriately enough, Halloween Ends. Fresh from revitalising the slasher saga with 2018’s confusingly-titled Halloween – a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 original that ignores the rest of the films in the series – the filmmaker most recently sent Michael Myers on another murderous Haddonfield rampage in last year’s Halloween Kills, setting up a concluding chapter of Laurie Strode’s story for the upcoming threequel. But even though we know that Halloween Ends will bring some kind of ending, quite how that plays out is still in flux.

Speaking to Empire in the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery issue, Green claimed that he’s still tinkering with Halloween Ends’ ending. “It changes every day,” he says. “In theory, the picture is locked, but this morning I called the editor and said, ‘What if we do this one thing…’” There is, after all, pressure to get it right – Ends not only marking the end of this Halloween continuity, but the end (again) for Jamie Lee Curtis’ iconic scream queen Laurie. “I speak wth John [Carpenter] and Jamie Lee Curtis regularly about it,” says Green, who promises big things for his final slice of Halloween. “It’s exciting, uncertain, satisfying and sad. I’ve enjoyed the ride but it’s probably time to get off. I think we’re gonna go out with a bang.”

Still, after the ultra-gory murder-fest of Halloween Kills, the director claims he’s reining himself in a little more this time. “If our second film was free-for-all, violent chaos, this is a more intimate, atmospheric conclusion,” he says. With the ending just around the corner, here’s hoping Green gives it a real good stab.

Looper Interviews Katee Sackhoff

Looper Interviews Katee Sackhoff

Check out this awesome interview with Halloween Resurrection‘s Katee Sachkoff, courtesy of Looper!

If you’re a science fiction fan, you’re already familiar with Katee Sackhoff. Between her appearances as Lieutenant Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on Battlestar Galactica, Bo-Katan Kryze on The Mandalorian, Amunet Black on The Flash, Dahl in Riddick, and Niko Breckinridge on Another Life, Sackhoff has established herself as the go-to action heroine in the genre space. If you need a sci-fi badass, she’s the woman you call.

But unfortunately, that kind of reputation comes with a price. “For better or worse, I am very much associated with strong, physically fit, very capable, independent, healthy women. My weight has been a topic of discussion in this industry for so many years,” Sackhoff tells Looper in an exclusive interview. “I started acting when I was 17, and I was known for a very long time as the chubby girl from the Max Bickford show, or the show with Richard Dreyfuss. And, it was like, ‘I’m a size eight.’ I didn’t understand.”

That’s one of the big reasons why Sackhoff started her YouTube channel Blood, Sweat & Coffee, which gives an in-depth and unflinchingly honest look at how Sackhoff trains for her physically demanding roles, shapes her body according to the character she’s playing, and maintains a healthy lifestyle. “People, men and women, look up to me, and they’ve asked me questions about what I do. And I wanted to be as honest as possible and I wanted to show the works and all,” Sackhoff explains.

After being diagnosed with thyroid cancer near the end of filming on Battlestar Galactica, undergoing surgery, remaining in remission for over a decade, she’s committed herself to being as healthy as possible. On average, she trains five days a week, spending between 30 minutes to an hour working out. Her routine changes regularly, too. As she describes on Sweat, Blood & Coffee, Sackhoff works hard to ensure that every character she plays has a different body type — Longmire’s Vic Moretti is curvier than Riddick’s Dahl, for example — and as she gets older, she adjusts her workouts accordingly.

Suffice to say, Sackhoff is about as healthy as she’s ever been, but getting fit did have a big drawback: After years in show business, Sackhoff suddenly couldn’t remember her lines.

For that, Sackhoff blames smoking — or the lack thereof. “I quit smoking 10 years ago, and when I quit smoking, I couldn’t memorize dialogue for a good handful of years,” she says. “I [thought], ‘What the hell? I have to figure something out.'”

Before, Sackhoff would sit with a cigarette in one hand and a script in the other, chain-smoking as she learned her lines. “What I realized is that, because of the repetitive nature of memorizing dialogue, I had to be doing something else at the same time,” she explains to Looper. Without smoking to help, Sackhoff had to find something else.

Cardio was the answer. “I get on a treadmill with my script or I walk around the neighborhood, talking to myself. People think I’m insane. And I memorize my dialogue,” Sackhoff says. “That’s what I do. So, I get my cardio in as I’m flipping pages. I do probably an hour a day of just walking on a treadmill.”

Keeping busy like that is a recurring theme in Sackhoff’s life. In fact, it’s why she started Sweat, Blood & Coffee in the first place. “We’re in an industry that is very much dependent on people hiring you. And there are times where that can take its toll on you emotionally and creatively,” she says. “I was [thinking], ‘I am just bored. I need to create something. I need to do something.'” And so, she decided to share her fitness journey with the world. The rest? Well, you can see that for yourself.

You can find more about Sackhoff’s fitness regimen, as well as all other kinds of helpful information and advice, on Blood, Sweat & Coffee. Meanwhile, her recent appearances on The Mandalorian can be found on Disney+, while the next season of her Netflix series Another Life is expected to drop later this year.

Bloody Disgusting Interviews Andi Matichak

Bloody Disgusting Interviews Andi Matichak

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Disgusting, Halloween Kills‘ Andi Matichak discusses Michael’s “next level” retaliation and why the film should be experienced in theatres! Check out the full interview and podcast episode below.

The Strode family will return later this year in David Gordon Green’s Halloween Kills, a sequel to the 2018 version of Halloween that will pick up after Laurie Strode, Allyson Strode and Karen Strode locked Michael Myers in Laurie’s basement and burnt the whole damn house down. Michael is still alive, of course, and he’s more pissed off than ever before.

Andi Matichak is back as Allyson in Halloween Kills, and speaking with Bloody Disgusting’s Boo Crew Podcast this week, Matichak teases Michael’s fury in this year’s sequel.

“It is… a movie that I think fans will be very happy with,” Matichak tells the show. “It’s big, and it’s bad, and it’s mean. And we see Michael… I think Laurie, Allyson and Karen pissed him off a little bit, by locking him in the basement, because his retaliation is next level.”

Matichak also spoke about the film’s delayed release due to the pandemic, which pushed it from an original date of October 2020 into the current date of October 15, 2021.

“Ya know, of course it’s a bummer, you want the movie to come out. Fans were really excited, we’re all excited to see the finished product,” Matichak explains. “But at the end of the day, one of the beauties of horror movies is watching it with the horror community, and seeing it in a theater with the acoustics – and of course you want to hear John Carpenter’s score, in a theater. It’s just different. And it carries a bigger punch. This movie in particular… it’s so big, chaotic, vicious and awesome. It deserves to be seen in a theater. And we weren’t able to do that last year. And that’s just the sad fact of it. And hopefully we’re able to do it this year. And if we’re not, I’m sure it’ll be released VOD or however they do it, but it’ll be out this year for sure.”

The actress adds, “If we have the potential of seeing the film together and all celebrating it properly, and seeing it in the way it deserves to be seen, then it was the right move.”

Katee is a former athlete who loves to exercise and started the Blood, Sweat and Coffee channel on YouTube to let others know how a Hollywood actress like her lives day-to-day which includes the grueling workouts required to look great for a particular role.

Bare Magazine Speaks With Andi Matichak

Bare Magazine Speaks With Andi Matichak

Bare Magazine spoke with Halloween‘s Andi Matichak recently. Check out the article and photoshoot below.

The stunning and talented Andi Matichak stars alongside Emile Hirsch in Ivan Kavanagh’s supernatural horror film, “Son,” premiering in theaters and on-demand March 5th. In the film, she plays a mother trying to protect her son from the demonic cult that raised her — and her performance is truly compelling. Of course we’d expect nothing less from an actor who played Jamie Lee Curtis’ granddaughter in the 2018 reboot of the classic horror film “Halloween.” (She will also be starring in its next scary sequel “Halloween Kills” in October.) Recently, we got Andi to step away from the spooky film set and in front of our lens. Take a peek at the dreamy images of her, below, as well as some of her tips, product essentials and passions.

The Bare Magazine: Did you make any new skincare/self-care discoveries during quarantine that you found to be particularly comforting and effective?
Andi Matichak: For me, self care has never felt as necessary as it did this past year. Baths and at-home facials were my way to relax and feel good. My favorite bath products at the moment are Mary’s Nutritional Hemp Calm Bomb and Osea’s Gigartina Therapy Bath (Salt). My favorite at-home masks are the Environ’s Tri Biobotanical Revival Peeling Masque, Tata Harper’s Clarifying AHA + BHA Mask and The Ordinary’s Salicylic Acid 2% Charcoal Masque.

Bare: Did your beauty and skincare routines change while you were filming “Son”?
AM: SON was not only an intense movie to shoot, but the material was also quite dark and stressful. For me, stress equates to breakouts. My personal beauty routine stayed the same, but luckily I had a makeup artist, Leslie Dale Humphrey, who was basically a magician! She spoiled my skin and took such good care of me. Every time we wrapped for the day, she removed the day’s work with Koh Gen Do’s Cleansing Spa Water, which is filled with natural herbal essences and is only mildly acidic on the skin. Then we followed with a hot towel and a yummy application (and decadent deep facial massage) of Drunk Elephant’s Virgin Marula Oil. Then we ended with the Dermalogica Active Moist Moisturizer. When I got home and finished preparing for the next day, I would do my normal routine: Elta MD Foaming Facial Cleanser followed by Paula’s Choice Daily Pore-Refining Treatment with 2% BHA, which is a gentle exfoliating toner, and a generous application of my Environ Vit-Peptide C-Quence Serum 4+.

Bare: Have you become a pro at doing your own hair and makeup for zoom calls and remote press? What are some of your go-to products?
AM: I would consider myself a true minimalist when it comes to doing my own glam. Partly because I love the natural look, and partly because I’m definitely not a pro! I’ve found the most success with using products that are pliable and that I can apply with my hands. My skin tone always favors a warmer palette; so the colors in my makeup bag range from neutral to pink to deep rose. I have a good grasp on doing my hair but the products are key. Personally, I love Ouai and Oribe!

Bare: Stepping back to your younger years, were there any beauty tips/philosophies your mom or a close friend shared with you that still ring true?
AM: My mom always instilled that less is more and to stick with what works! Also, my ride or die in high school was my drugstore-bought clear mascara … We’re still good friends.

Bare: Who are some women you’ve worked with that have inspired and empowered you?
AM: Jamie Lee Curtis and Judy Greer are two women who I have been so fortunate to work with that have inspired and empowered me. They are both wildly authentic and unapologetically confident. Jamie Lee leads by example and commands a room with grace and generosity. And anyone that spends time around Judy Greer is better for it. She will challenge you to be better while making you die laughing in the process.

Bare: Are there any iconic beauties that stand out to you for reasons beyond their looks, and why?
AM: Hedy Lamarr!! She was so iconic and absolutely brilliant. At the height of her film career, and in the midst of WWII, she learned that radio-controlled torpedoes could easily be jammed and set off-course, so she co-invented a communications system that used randomly varying radio frequencies to prevent interceptions by the enemies. She received very little recognition at the time but is now credited for being a pioneer in the technology that makes cellphones, faxes, and all of today’s wireless communication systems possible. That’s just one of the many cool Hedy Lamarr facts!

Bare: Do you feel the aging process for female actors is becoming more accepted and embraced?
AM: I see the entertainment industry embracing more stories told by older women but there is still a very long way to go, especially destigmatizing the aging process. The entertainment, media and beauty industries all play a role in perpetuating the stigma around aging. These industries claim to support women aging naturally but really are just emphasizing “looking good for your age” and marketing products that claim to “fight aging,” which to me feels hypocritical. To quote what a woman I have always idolized, Julianne Moore, said ”I think it’s really important to be where you are,” when talking about accepting and celebrating your age.

Bare: What are your top 5 Bare essentials…they can be anything.
AM:
My family and pups
La Mer Lip Balm (An investment lip balm but you’ll never lose it!)
Fresh Air
Glossier Boy Brow
Fresh Flowers (Ranunculus, Tulips and Peonies are some of my favorites)

Additionally, Halloween Photos has also had a new category added to it — photoshoots! I’ll be posting a selection of photoshoots featuring the cast members as I come across them, and Andi’s photoshoot with Bare Magazine is the first to be added. Two Interviews with Sandy Johnson

Two Interviews with Sandy Johnson

Sandy Johnson is best known to us Halloween fans as the original Judith Myers, portraying the iconic opening kill of the horror film. But Sandy herself quickly retired from show business and, for years, went unaware of what a fanbase the films had developed, or even that people had been trying to track her down for convention appearances.

In 2018, Dread Central was the first publication in nearly forty years to interview her, and it came at just the right time for the then-upcoming release of the 2018 revival. More recently, the official Halloween site posted their own exclusive interview with her.

Both interviews are fascinating reads, and I’ve linked both below for those who haven’t seen either of them. Both links will open in a new tab.

You can follow Sandy Johnson on her Instagram page, @unicornsandyj.
